The Peninsular Rivers
The main rivers of the Peninsular Plateau originate from the Western Ghats and flow in a west-east direction to join the Bay of Bengal by Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Cauveri.  The Narmada and Tapi are two exceptions, which flow towards west and join Gulf of Khambhat.
Rivers flowing in the Bay of Bengal
1.  Godavari 
2.  Mahanadi, 
3.  Subarmarekha
4.  Brahmani
5.  Krishna
6.  The Kaveri (Cauvery)
7.  Tambraparni and Vaigai
8.  Varushanad

Rivers flowing in Arabian Sea


Narmada, Tapi, Sabarmati and Mahi are the major rivers flowing in the Arabian Sea.

2. Mahi 


The Peninsular rivers have broad and shallow valleys as against the deep gorges formed by the Himalayan rivers.
